Personally I prefer to call this particular villain
Mu-Onna, the Japanese name for her. I think that Unmother is an awkward word to say. The Unmother is formed from
the agony of loss of a child to famine and war. She seeks to fill this void in herself by sucking in others. Deep
down she's just a mother who loves her children, but that love has been twisted into the soul-devouring demon you know today.
When Sesshomaru decided that he wanted the Tetsusaiga, Jaken formed a plan which involved the Unmother pretending to be Inuyasha's
mother. Her spell held by a reflection on the water, and when Kagome broke the reflection, Inuyasha was freed.
However, later she saves Inuyasha's life and sacrifices her own in the process. Like I said, she was truly a mother, but
tha love was tragically twisted. For her intervention, Sesshomaru destroyed her. Her part in the show spanned
only two episodes, but I feel she was important because while she pretended to be Inuyasha's mom, we saw that Inuyasha loved
his mother very much. However, he was ashamed of her, also. Nonetheless, he saved her, even though she'd been
dead already.
